April 23rd: April Newsletter

April 13th: Entomologists are predicting that insects could be a larger problem than normal this year. Additionally, just as wheat is thriving early, so, too, are weeds, especially winter annuals that did not die during the winter. It is still too early, however, to tell which insects and diseases will be dominant this spring, so it is crucial for farmers to pay close attention to their fields. Click here to read the full story.

April 13th: This is the earliest planting date for North Dakota in 10 years, with the previous date being April 14, according to the NASS. There is a strong relationship between planting late and its impact on yields. Hot weather arrived as the wheat was entering some key development stages. Click here to read the full story.

October 25th: North Dakota Grain Inspection is now offering testing for customers to prove their corn is of the Viptera trait or not. Viptera is a new hybrid of corn that controls over 14 insects including European corn borer, corn earworm, western bean cutworm and others. There are various countries that will not accept United States Exports of the hybrid corn, including China.
