North Dakota Grain Inspection Service, Inc. offers official services that fall under the supervision of the United States Grain Standards Act(USGSA). The fees for these services must be approved by the USDA Federal Grain Inspection Service(FGIS). The FGIS attaches a users fee to each of these services. These fees are paid by the applicant for the services, and are already included in our Official Fee Schedule. A user fee is charged to the applicant for each official sample or submitted sample tested under the United States Grain Standards Act. NDGI also offers services that are not covered by the United States Grain Standards Act. There are no FGIS user fees charges for the services not performed under the USGSA. They include but are not limited to: grades for grains not listed under the USGSA, barley proteins, refractive index tests, germination tests, black light mold tests, stress or vigor tests, sunflower roastability, and edible bean tests. Another option that is available is the commercial official inspection. These services are designed mainly for the small to moderate sized elevator or the processor. The commercial service allows applicants to work with the FGIS and the official agency to modify sampling and inspection procedures to fit individual needs. The FGIS charges no user fee on these services, but a proposal for such services must be submitted and pre-approved by the FGIS. NDGI provides on-site official sampling and inspection services at many facilities within their designated area. In most situations a volume discount is available. For more information on this option, or to set up a plan specifically designed to accommodate your needs, contact North Dakota Grain Inspection Service, Inc. Knowing the tight time constraints that the railroads currently place on elevators, if need be NDGI's official samplers are on the job seven days a week to serve its customers. One call and NDGI personnel are on duty to officially sample your railcar, unit train or container shipments. In addition to our official sampling services, sample pickup routes are available to efficiently transport your submitted grain to the Fargo office for testing.
