ND Grain Inspection Service Inc. and Illinois Official Grain Inspection adds test for the presence of
Recently the national media has filled the news with reports of StarLink™ genetically modified corn entering food channels. While the genetically altered corn product is approved as a livestock feed, it contains a protein (Cyr9C) that the EPA believes could provoke an allergic reaction in humans. Tests continue to determine whether it is safe for human consumption. To help our customers insure that their stored grain is free of this genetically altered corn, North Dakota Grain Inspection Service, Inc. has added a test for StarLink™ corn to its services not performed under the United States Grain Standards Act. NDGI and IOGI will be using the recently released Strategic Diagnostics Inc.analytical test kits. The fee for this qualitative test will be $14.00 per sample. A $6.00 per submitted sample discount is available or those customers who wish to provide their own StarLink™ test kits.
